Marius Madsen, born in Singapore in 2005, was a First Dan in Taekwondo by the age of 14. However, a near-fatal accident left him paralyzed from the waist down at the age of 15, leading him to switch to archery.

Determined to excel in sports like before, this para-athlete in archery put in the hard work and countless hours of training, Marius is aspiring to be a para-athlete in the archery national squad to represent Singapore in the Para Games.

He is also an ambassador for Neurogenic Bladder and Ileostomy Care and a trauma patient ambassador with NUH. Marius is passionate about raising awareness of spinal cord injuries, disabled sports, and childhood cancer.

He founded non-profit Take Me To: A Childhood Cancer Center, raising funds for children's cancer hospitals in Malaysia, Singapore, and Thailand and participated in numerous fund raising charity events.

His spinal cord injury (SCI) could have easily broken anyone, but Marius refused to give up and decided to channel his energy into a new passion. He decided to trade his Taekwondo kicks for the bulls eye in archery.

Marius is determined to become a para-athlete in archery, and he worked tirelessly to achieve his goal. He spent countless hours training, honing his skills, and competing in tournaments. He is currently training with SDSC's Developmental Program and aspiring to represent Singapore as a para-archer in the Para Games.

The SDSC's Para Games Developmental Program for para-archers include: ASEAN Para Games, World Championships/World Cup, Asian Para Games and Paralympic Games.

Marius is now living his dream as a para-athlete. But he didn't stop there. He also dedicated himself to raising awareness of disabled sports and spinal cord injuries, as well as helping children with cancer. He participated in numerous events and fundraisers to support these causes, inspiring others with his passion and dedication.

Fulfilling terminally ill childrens' last wish

Take Me To: A Childhood Cancer Center (TMT) is a nonprofit providing weeklong, cost-free vacations to families with children in the last stages of terminal cancer.

TMT was inspired by a little girl named Sarah, who had leukemia and a wish to visit Legoland’s theme parks. Although TMT provided a complimentary stay for Sarah and her family, the rest of her travel plans took too long to arrange, and her wish was never granted.

Marius was able to bring 40 children with terminal cancer and their families to Legoland Malaysia to create lasting memories. Marius is affectionately known as the "Abang Lego" amongst the children and families who come to know him.

In addition to his work with childhood cancer, Marius has also partnered with organizations such as Camp 5, Disney, Mattel, Huggies to fundraise for children's hospitals in Malaysia, Singapore, and Thailand. Through his tireless efforts, Marius has helped bring attention to the needs of these hospitals and the individuals they serve.

Covid times

During the COVID-19 pandemic, Marius continued his work by raising funds to support the paediatric ward with supplies of diapers and milk to three major cancer hospitals in Malaysia.

He also raised funds to support families from low or no income with groceries and basic living necessities in Malaysia, benefitting over 1,250 families.

· KKH Health Endowment Fund, Singapore - Fundraised and create awareness with 501st Singapore Garrison

· Children’s Cancer Foundation, Singapore - Fundraised and created awareness also become an Individual Shavee.

·Holy Cross Church - Helped raised funds and supplies to support families from low/no income with groceries and basic living necessities.

· National Cancer Society, Malaysia, World Blood Donor Day, Purple Parade with SDSC, etc.

Marius is particularly passionate about supporting individuals who have faced similar struggles to his own. After losing his ability to use his lower limbs, Marius understands first-hand the physical and emotional toll of a spinal cord injury. He has used his experiences to become a patient spokesperson for Neurogenic Bladder and Ileostomy Care with the National University Hospital in Singapore.

In addition to his advocacy work for individuals with spinal cord injuries, Marius is also a trauma patient ambassador with the National University Hospital in Singapore. As an athlete, Marius recognizes the importance of mental health and has taken the initiative to become certified in Suicide Prevention Counselling from Wesleyan University in 2023.
